The color of urine changes as a result of drinking habits, diet and medications.

But light yellow color of urine is considered healthy.

Now, for the first time, scientists have discovered why the color of urine is yellow.

Research published in the journal Nature Microbiology found that an enzyme called bilirubin plays a role in this regard.

For 125 years, experts knew that compounds in the stomach convert bilirubin to urobilin, but they didn't know why.

This study showed that when red blood cells are degraded, bilirubin is released in the stomach.

In fact, if the amount of this enzyme in the blood increases, the skin and eyes turn yellow.

Genome sequencing helped discover the enzyme, the researchers said.

"We discovered that the bacteria in the gut affect our daily lives," he said.

He added that the bacteria in the stomach convert bilirubin into colorless urobilinogen and this results in yellow color of urine.

He said that this discovery will help in understanding gastrointestinal diseases.

According to the researchers, increasing the amount of this enzyme in the body damages the brain.

Research has discovered that this enzyme is present in the body of almost all healthy adults, but is absent in newborns and people with gastrointestinal disorders.

They are now planning to confirm the research findings on humans.

Keep in mind that the color of urine can indicate a number of medical problems.

Dark yellow color means that your body is dehydrated while red color indicates blood.

Brown color indicates liver problems or urinary tract problems.
